Greek Farmers’ Markets
In Greece, every settlement, small or large, has its own market day.
At dawn, farmers in the area set up their stalls and shoppers begin to flock.
In summer, half of them are tourists. But locals are the really interesting buyers. They joke, argue, bargain. And all this out loud.
Going to the farmer's market is exhausting, but one remains rewarded with fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses and eggs, honey, spices and herbs, sweets and nuts, olive oil and of course olives.
Visiting Greece and not going to the local farmers market is a crime that I do not advise you to commit.
